Passive Voice
Advanced Passive Voice
1. It + Passive Verb + That Clause
- Active: People say that the new policy is effective. It is said that the policy is effective.
- Passive: It is said that the new policy is effective.
- Active: The media reported that the storm caused massive damage. It was reported that the storm caused massive damage.
- Passive: It was reported that the storm caused massive damage.
2. Subject + Passive Verb + To-Infinitive
- Active: The police believe the suspect is in London.
- Passive: The suspect is believed to be in London.
- Active: People expect the CEO will resign soon.
- Passive: The CEO is expected to resign soon.
Past Actions: Perfect Infinitive (to have + V3)
- Active: They think the thieves stole the painting last night. The thieves are thought to have stolen the painting last night.
- Passive: The thieves are thought to have stolen the painting last night.
- Active: Authorities claim he escaped the prison.
- Passive: He is claimed to have escaped the prison.
3. There + Passive Verb + To Be
- Active: Experts estimate that there are 5,000 tigers left in the wild. There are estimated to be five thousand tigers left in the wild. Experts estimate that there are five thousand tigers left in the wild.
- Passive: There are estimated to be 5,000 tigers left in the wild.
- Active: They fear that there will be more floods.
- Passive: There are feared to be more floods.
4. Passive Voice in Headlines (सुर्खियों में Passive)
अक्सर auxiliary verbs (is, are, was, were) को पूरी तरह से हटा दिया जाता है।
- Headline: Two Men Arrested After Bank Robbery
Two men were arrested after the bank robbery. ) - Headline: New Tax Laws Expected Next Year
New tax laws are expected next year. )
या He is said to...
