रिपोर्टेड स्पीच (Reported Speech): प्रश्न (Questions)

जब हम किसी और के द्वारा पूछे गए प्रश्न को अपने शब्दों में बताते हैं, तो हम रिपोर्टेड स्पीच (Reported Speech) का उपयोग करते हैं। प्रश्नों को रिपोर्ट करते समय अंग्रेजी में कुछ विशेष नियमों का पालन करना होता है I wanted to know if you were free. ▶, जो सामान्य वाक्यों से थोड़े अलग होते हैं।

रिपोर्टिंग वर्ब्स (Reporting Verbs)

प्रश्नों को रिपोर्ट करने के लिए हम सामान्यतः When we report questions, we use asked instead of said. ▶ 'said' या 'told' के बजाय asked, wanted to know, या wondered का प्रयोग करते हैं।

वाक्य की संरचना (Word Order)

यह सबसे महत्वपूर्ण नियम है: रिपोर्टेड प्रश्न में, वाक्य की संरचना प्रश्नवाचक She wondered what time it was. ▶ (Question Word Order) से बदलकर सामान्य वाक्य (Statement Word Order) जैसी हो जाती है। अंत में प्रश्नवाचक चिह्न (?) नहीं लगता, बल्कि Full Stop (.) लगता है।

• Direct: Subject के पहले helping verb आती है। ▶ (उदा: Are you ready?)
• Reported: Subject के बाद verb आती है। He asked if I was ready. ▶ (उदा: ...if I was ready.)

Yes/No Questions (हाँ/ना वाले प्रश्न)

जिन प्रश्नों का उत्तर 'हाँ' या 'ना' में दिया जा सकता है She asked me whether I was coming to the party. ▶ (जो Do, Does, Is, Are, Have, Will आदि से शुरू होते हैं), उन्हें रिपोर्ट करते समय हम if या whether का प्रयोग करते हैं।

• Direct: "Do you like coffee?" he asked. He asked if I liked coffee. ▶
• Reported: He asked if I liked coffee.
• Direct: "Are you coming to the party?" she asked me. ▶
• Reported: She asked me whether I was coming to the party.

ध्यान दें: यहाँ प्रश्नवाचक शब्द 'do' या 'does' को हटा दिया जाता है और मुख्य verb को tense के अनुसार बदल दिया जाता है। whether, whether, whether ▶

Wh- Questions (Wh- शब्द वाले प्रश्न)

जो प्रश्न What, Where, When, Why, Who, How आदि से शुरू होते हैं, उनमें if या whether का प्रयोग नहीं होता। हम उसी Wh- शब्द (Question word) का प्रयोग करते हैं He asked where I was going. ▶ जिससे प्रश्न शुरू हुआ था।

• Direct: "Where do you live?" they asked. They asked where I lived. ▶
• Reported: They asked where I lived.
• Direct: "What is your name?" the teacher asked him. ▶
• Reported: The teacher asked him what his name was. (ध्यान दें: what was his name गलत है, what his name was सही है।)

Tense और Pronoun में बदलाव (Backshifting)

रिपोर्टेड स्टेटमेंट्स (statements) की तरह ही, रिपोर्टेड प्रश्नों में भी Tenses, Pronouns (सर्वनाम) और Time expressions (समय बताने वाले शब्द) बदलते हैं, विशेषकर जब reporting verb past tense John asked me if I had seen the movie the day before. ▶ (जैसे asked) में हो।

• Present Simple ➔ Past Simple
• Present Continuous ➔ Past Continuous
• Past Simple ➔ Past Perfect

उदाहरण:

• Direct: "Did you see the movie yesterday?" John asked me. ▶
• Reported: John asked me if I had seen the movie the day before.

महत्वपूर्ण बिंदु (Key Points)

• हमेशा asked या wanted to know का प्रयोग करें।
• वाक्य का word order सामान्य वाक्य (Subject + Verb) में बदल दें।
• प्रश्नवाचक चिह्न (?) हटाकर Full stop (.) लगाएँ। asked, asked, asked ▶
