Vocabulary: Food, Drinks, and Ordering at a Restaurant

🍽️ The Meals of the Day (Las Comidas del Día)
In Spain and many Spanish-speaking countries, the main meals have specific names:

- El almuerzo: Lunch. This is traditionally the largest meal of the day, usually eaten between 2 PM and 4 PM.

Now, let's put it all together. Here are the key phrases you will need.

'Una mesa para dos, por favor.' - A table for two, please.
'¿Tienen una mesa libre?' - Do you have a free table?
➡️ Step 2: Asking for the menu
'La carta, por favor.' - The menu, please. (In Spain, 'la carta' is the main menu, while 'el menú' often refers to a fixed-price daily menu).
'¿Me trae el menú, por favor?' - Can you bring me the menu, please?
➡️ Step 3: Ordering your food and drinks
The waiter (camarero/a) might ask: '¿Qué van a tomar?' (What are you going to have?) or '¿Listos para pedir?' (Ready to order?).
You can answer:
- 'Para beber, quiero...' - To drink, I want...
- 'De primero, quisiera...' - For the first course, I would like...
- 'De segundo, ...' - For the second course...
- 'Para mí, ...' - For me, ...
Example: 'Para mí, la ensalada, y de segundo, el pollo, por favor.'
