▶️ Потому что (patamú shta) - 'because'

This conjunction is used to explain the reason or cause of an action. It answers the question 'Почему?' (Why?). The structure is quite straightforward and similar to English.

Structure: [Main statement], потому что [the reason].

Я остался дома, потому что на улице шёл дождь.
I stayed at home because it was raining outside.
(The question is: 'Почему я остался дома?' - Why did I stay at home? The answer provides the reason.)

📌 Example 2:
Она не пришла на встречу, потому что была очень занята.
She didn't come to the meeting because she was very busy.
(The reason for her absence was being busy.)

▶️ Поэтому (paétamu) - 'so', 'therefore'

This conjunction introduces the result or consequence of a preceding action or situation. It connects a cause to its effect.

Structure: [The cause], поэтому [the result].

Notice how it's the logical opposite of 'потому что'. While 'потому что' introduces a reason for a stated fact, 'поэтому' introduces a result of a stated fact.

This is a very important conjunction used to express purpose, goal, or desire. It answers the question 'Зачем?' (For what purpose? What for?). The grammar after 'чтобы' is special and depends on the subjects in the sentence.

🎯 Case 1: Same Subject
When the person performing both actions is the same, we use 'чтобы' followed by an infinitive verb.

Structure: [Main action], чтобы + [Infinitive verb].

Я приехал в Москву, чтобы учиться в университете.
I came to Moscow in order to study at the university.
(The subject 'I' is the same for both 'came' and 'study'.)

When one person wants, advises, or requests another person to do something, the structure changes. We use 'чтобы' followed by the subject of the second clause and a verb in the past tense. This past tense form here does not indicate past time; it functions as the subjunctive mood, expressing a wish or request.

Structure: [Person 1 + wants/advises], чтобы + [Person 2] + [Past Tense Verb].

('Мама' is subject 1, 'я' is subject 2. 'Учился' is the masculine past tense of 'учиться'.)
