🌍 The Environment (Die Umwelt)

Let's begin with vocabulary related to our planet and its protection. This is a very common topic in discussions and written exams.

  • die Umwelt: the environment

  • der Klimawandel: climate change

  • die Ferienwohnung (FeWo): holiday apartment
  • die Jugendherberge: youth hostel

Example: "Für unseren Urlaub haben wir eine Ferienwohnung am Meer gebucht und möchten viele Sehenswürdigkeiten besichtigen." (For our vacation, we have booked a holiday apartment by the sea and want to visit many sights.)

♻️ Connecting Both Topics: Sustainable Tourism

A modern and important concept is der nachhaltige Tourismus (sustainable tourism). This means traveling in a way that respects the local culture and protects the environment.
For example: "Man kann nachhaltig reisen, indem man öffentliche Verkehrsmittel am Reiseziel nutzt und Müll vermeidet." (One can travel sustainably by using public transport at the destination and avoiding waste.)
